Alien, Ridley Scotts legendärer Science-Fiction-Schocker, ist einer der wesentlichen Endpunkte im New-Hollywood-Kino der 70er-Jahre und zugleich der Beginn einer mehrteiligen Saga, dem drei Sequels und zwei Prequels folgten. H. R. Giger erhielt für seine stilbildende Gestaltung des biomechanischen, schleimigen Ausserirdischen einen Oscar; Sigourney Weaver wurde als Lt. Ripley zum Star – als erste Actionheldin revolutionierte sie Hollywoods Frauenbild und ebnete damit den Weg für eine neue Generation weiblicher Schauspielerinnen.
