Die Comedytruppe von Monty Python agierte in dieser Verwechslungskomödie in mehr als 40 wechselnden Rollen. Dass der Film trotz grosser Probleme überhaupt finanziert werden konnte, ist Ex-Beatle George Harrison zu verdanken, der mit vier Millionen Dollar in die Bresche sprang. In Norwegen, Irland oder Italien durfte der Film wegen Blasphemie lange nicht gezeigt werden, auch in anderen Ländern gab es Kontroversen. Heute ist der Film längst ein Klassiker.

The Monty Python comedy team played more than 40 different roles in this comedy of errors. The movie ran into big trouble and could only be financed thanks to ex-Beatle George Harrison who jumped into the breach to the tune of four million dollars. In Norway, Ireland and Italy the film was banned for blasphemy for many years, and there were controversies in other countries as well. In the meantime, the film has become a classic.
